Virginia Legends Fastpitch Turns 30

Developing Softball Athletes Since 1985 |
Virginia Beach, VA. The Virginia Legends, Virginia’s premier
fast-pitch travel organization, celebrates their 30 year anniversary this
spring. Since 1985, the Virginia Legends have been actively and passionately
helping softball athletes achieve their academic and athletic goals, signing, to date, 150
athletes to NCAA scholarships.
The Virginia Legends have been funding strength training,
skill development and travel for teams to national tournaments since their
inception. Located in Hampton Roads, Virginia Legend teams travel to
tournaments throughout Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania,
Texas, California, Oregon, South Carolina, and New York. Virginia Legend
players are widely identified as hard-working, fundamental and competitive
softball players throughout the tournament and clinic circuits. Legend players
follow a high standard of service, sportsmanship and dedication.
In 2014 alone, the Virginia Legends signed 12 athletes to
NCAA softball and academic scholarships to total 1.1 million dollars. “These numbers reflect a great commitment to
fundamentals and training and to the process of becoming a collegiate
student-athlete,” said Barry Paul, Board President. “Our players really train
smart and know what it means to work for what they want in life,” he added.
Virginia Legends develop their softball skills in a year-round program. Players
participate in fall travel tournaments, in the winter they work on their
fundamentals and physical strength, and in the spring and summer they
participate in tournament competition. "Every softball athlete has her own path," said Barry Paul. "It's our job to help each of them find success on that path."
So far in 2015, the Virginia Legends are excited to report
that 10 players have signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate
softball to total $1.8 million in scholarship awards. Graduating classes of
2015-2017 are represented in this total, with a few 2018 and 2019 athletes
receiving interest from college coaches as well. “It’s an exciting time to be a Virginia Legend,” said James
Spencer, Board Vice-President. “With so many colleges signing athletes at a
younger age, our athletes will be ready when their opportunity arises,” he added.
